I’ve known Zakk for a while; I knew him back when he first picked up this car. I thought writing this article would be a lot easier than it actually was. When I write automotive articles, I like to make them very personal – you know, make you really feel like you know the car and what the owner is all about.
I first met Zakk at DTM Autowerks in Milford, New Hampshire. He drove a static MKIV with a rusted front fender, thus the name “rusty fendie”. I’ll be completely honest: I thought it dumb. So when I saw Zakk upgrade to an S4, a small part of me was really proud of him.
Zakk is twenty-three and mostly does custom body work, particularly shaving bays. He shaved my front bumper and did some work for a couple of my friends. Zak does good work with the tools he’s been given, especially for being fresh out of school. He loves the lifestyle that comes along with the automotive culture, and like most, enjoys seeing people stare at his car while driving down the road. Zak loves standing out in the generally boring state of New Hampshire; with this extremely loud and sometimes-obnoxious car it comes easy for him.
Between the roads up here, cops, and wanting wider wheels, Zakk chose to bag this B5. Although, I only know Zakk from cars and once dating one of my really close friends, I don’t know much about what really goes on in his mind. He says his inspiration for choosing this car stemmed from wanting something faster than his father’s Mustangs. A small bit of desire for it also came from the constant competition between all of our friends: who can be the fastest, widest, and lowest? The question pushed him to go further and further with this one.
He’s happy with the car, but hints that it will be very different this coming season. Zakk plans on changing the turbo out, upgrading sway bars, upgrading control arms, and so on. Potentially even a color change, a half cage, and some Sparcos are in store as well.
Zakk would like to thank his friends: Paul, DJ, Pope and Chris. He also made it a point to say that he never would have purchased the car or have it be where it is today without Toni, his best friend/favorite photographer.
