Trends come and go, but love for cars only grows stronger with time. When I first laid eyes on Kevin’s car and was told I would be getting a chance to shoot it, I was almost in shock. A car this beautiful has been hiding locally to me for so long without being noticed. Our mutual friend Alex of Dirty Standards first introduced me to Kevin, a shoot was setup and I waited in excitement. The night before I almost couldn’t sleep, the excitement of shooting a car this clean, with a camera that I have been neglecting like a rental car was too much.
The following week I was lead to an unknown location to shoot a car I have never seen in person. Honestly I have to say I was a little bit nervous, and hadn’t really used my camera in months. My biggest fear was not living up to the standards Y.P.A.S. has set. When I met Kevin, all my fears seemed to be relinquished. Kevin was very subtle and down to Earth. Instantly a bond was formed between Kevin, Alex and I, the love of all things low brought us together.
One of the first things brought up, instantly was how did he end up with his car. Simple of course, every day Kevin commutes over 30 miles into the terrible roads of Boston. For a daily driven show car, a few things are needed. It must be comfortable to drive, it must get decent gas, and it must be low. Having owned over 20+ Volkswagens it was only fitting that he kept his tradition up and stayed in the VAG family. With Volkswagen’s new TDI engine 40+ miles per gallon all while being as quite as a Prius, it s the perfect commuters car.
As with any true enthusiast, his new toy couldn’t stay stock long. It was quickly equipped with air ride, and swapped in Independent Rear Suspension. Add in a set of Rotiform’s Candy Gold VCEs, and the perfect blend of reliability and appearance is complete. When you get older, your taste evolves. Becoming classier and more sophisticated. With Kevin’s car this can easily be noticed. Everything on his car is done right, and clean. There are no abstract colored wheels, no fenders destroyed, or no a single ziptie on the car. Being in the car scene as long as Kevin has, he had learned don’t follow the trends, but do what he likes. Kevin’s car is a prime example of what s a daily driver should be, looking like a model that Volkswagen should release stock from the factory.
